Kindness Hero - Charles Grace (Senior)
Only two before the holidays, Charles Grace, a senior at IA, and his family drove to the recreational center where donors dropped off toys for foster children. While the upcoming holidays or simply the cold winter weather may have stopped some, Charles and his family loaded donated gifts into the trunk of their car to surprise foster children before Christmas morning. These homes, he said, had as many as ten foster children in a house with only one adult. While his charitable act impressed us all, his kindness was not limited.
While in middle school, Charles began his work in charity by volunteering at soup kitchens and at homeless shelters. Entering high school, Charles sought more opportunities. He maintained working at his local community organizations (such as Gleaners and SOCRRA). With the help of IA's BuildOn club, Charles helped raise money for a service trip to Malawi and promoted literacy in Lilongwe by helping build a school.
"It just makes me so happy to help people. I love taking action and being involved in things where I can go out and help others in any way I can to bring positive change," Charles commented.
Charles is a member of the Tri M club (Music Honors society) in our school. He has also started a band to help others learn, explore, and play different instrumental music styles outside of IAE Bands and Orchestras' performance curriculum. Due to the remote learning conditions, Charles has been giving trombone lessons to elementary school kids virtually.
Because of his continuous acts of kindness, Charles has been selected as this month’s Kindness Hero. And with his kindness, we hope others will be inspired to act.
Remember, it doesn’t cost anything to be kind.
