Over these last couple of weeks, we have had some amazing, new teachers join our school. One of them is Mr. Norris: a Spanish teacher at the IA. He teaches MYP Spanish 9, MYP Spanish 10, and DP1 Spanish Language and Culture. I sat down with him to get an insight into his story.
1. Where did you work before working at the IA?
"Before working at the IA, I worked at a human resources company as a recruiter and employee relations manager."
2. Why did you decide to work at the IA?
"I decided to work at the IA because I value the IB program. I believe that the IB program is a holistic way of forming global citizens. I also like how the IB program works on establishing people to be good contributors to society."
3. Why did you want to become a teacher?
"When I was 13, my grandmother taught me to speak Spanish, and so, I grew up listening to Spanish conversations throughout my life. However today, I am the only one left in my family that speaks Spanish. I wanted to carry on my family's language by speaking Spanish and teaching it to others."
4. What IB Learner Profile characteristic best suits you?
"The IB Learner Profile characteristic that best suits me is Inquirer. I am super inquisitive about the world around me, and I want my students to feel the same way when inquiring about knowledge."
5. What is your favorite part about being a teacher?
"My favorite part about being a teacher is watching my students eyes understand something. This has been valuable as I can watch my students see the gears turn in their heads - seeing if they understand a concept."
6. What hobbies do you like to participate in outside of school?
"I like to go hiking because I like to be connected to nature. I am also into herbalism and knitting."
7. How do you like being a teacher at the IA so far?
"It feels great to be a teacher at the IA so far! The students are smart and driven, and it’s exciting to see my students’ motivation in their learning."
