You’ve heard of sports when thinking about school, and what about homework and friends? But, have you heard of shopping during school? This is what the International Academy East has recently opted for when it decided to reopen Upcycled Threads.
From my personal experience, visiting and shopping at Upcycled Threads has always been a fun time. The staff: Mrs. Malone, Norah, Lauren, and Linda welcome everyone with open arms and always have something to suit your style and personal wardrobe. Upcycled Threads reopened a month ago with shopping hours ranging from 10:50 till 12:50 P.M. every Tuesday and Thursday. The store has originally been on campus a while back from now, but decided to open back up this year as well! It is located near the front of the school and has easy access to and from lunch. In fact, visiting and shopping there during lunch is the best possible time for students, as it’s always open during lunch! Upcycled Threads has everything from clothes to accessories to even shoes. Most of their items are hand-me-downs, while a few are new pieces featuring their original store price tags. The environment there is always inviting with upbeat and fun music playing out loud. You can receive two to three items per visit, of course with no payment needed. Students who decide to purchase an item can always look forward to a quick and easy shopping experience. They bag your item(s) for you if you would like and record the purchased item. You're in and out of there in no time.

They spend lots of time putting care and effort into the store. The idea was originally made to “offer job sites at TCT (Troy Center of Transition) that mimics Athens High School,” according to Mrs. Malone. “It teaches the TCT students about work and customer service, as if it was a real job,” stated Mrs. Malone. “All items are donations that are given back to the community.”
Donating items to Upcycled Threads not only eliminates unused items from your wardrobe, but also helps out other students that may not have enough money to spend on clothes. You would be benefiting the store as well as other students. Just stop by and bring your items to them. If you haven’t already, I'd recommend coming with your friends during lunch and checking out Upcycled Threads. You never know, maybe you will find a few items that catch your eye
